It amazes me that I needed to go from Saskatoon to Kamloops to find snow. But here we are, in BC and there is more snow on the ground here than there has been in Saskatoon since November. Unseasonably warm is an understatement.
I have been thinking a lot lately about winter. It is one of my favorite seasons, if you dismiss the part about numb toes and freezing winds. There are certain things about the season that make it extra special. Most of them apply to both winter and its predecessor, fall. The general crispness in the air; the sudden need to don thick, cozy sweaters; warm, tasty holiday drinks in bright and festive cups; scarves of every color and pattern; beautiful lights on every house and street corner that brighten up the early dark nights; Christmas trees, Christmas presents, Christmas holidays.
Mostly I love how the snow covers up the landscape in a beautiful blanket. Photos have an entirely new aura to them. The same boring scene is suddenly transformed.
