little wizard

Fledgling Merlin

candle lake

On the Canada Day long-weekend we loaded up the car and drove the few hours north to Candle Lake. Spent a few days relaxing at the cabin, boating and cooking by the fire. For me it was my first experience further north in Saskatchewan than Warman, and my first experience cooking bushpies, a yummy grilled-cheese-style-pizza that is cooked over the fire.

Lots of a wildlife to be seen. My first sighting, a mere hour or so after setting foot out of the car, was this doe and her fawn. I soon came to realize that this is not an unusual sighting. Deer continued to stroll past the cabin for their breakfast in the early morning. Breakfast, of course, being the nice plants so nicely laid out in people's gardens.
